man of taste - Scott Campbell

for anyone who doesn't know - i'm not necessarily your average prissy fashion chick. i mean, i did not grow up in the 'hood or anything, but i'm from around chicago, and there's just some grit in me.  i can throw a pretty wicked right hook, when i play sports...i play dirty, and look...i love tattoos.  i have one and i'm planning my next.  my dream artist...Scott Campbell.

based out of Saved Tattoos in Brooklyn, he is like..the final word in getting inked.  his celeb following is insane, i'm sure his waitlist is even more so, but what it boils down to is that he's incredibly talented, and his work is so unique, you know it's a Scott Campbell tattoo when you see one.  it's precise, but with a raw feeling to it, and his level of detail borders on OCD.  his tattoos are just SICK.

see what i mean?  his work is just next level.  i totally dig what he does.

i don't know if i'm cool enough to even get on the waitlist to get inked by him, but i think i'm going to try.  it'd be the creme de la creme of my life in New York.

hiatus - commence?

it's been almost a month since i've updated... i don't even have a decent excuse.  i've been busy, i've been tied up...i guess.  but honestly, i just kind of went on mental hiatus.  i've been tossing my issues of Vogue and Elle aside lately in favor of a Differential Equations workbook and a book about Classical Control Theory.  i've been watching excessive amounts of '24' and reading a couple of other great books at night (finished 'Outliers' - reread 'The Girl who Played with Fire' - started 'The God Delusion' ..all interesting and well written!).  i've kind of checked out from the world, essentially.  and it's been really great.

but ok, a few outfits that have popped up recently.

post MIT visit: pants, JCrew. tshirt, MIT. sweater, JCrew. sneakers, Jack Purcell.

headed out to get new glasses!  pants, JCrew. striped tank, Target.  sweater, JCrew. heels, Vince Camuto. bag, Proenza Schouler.

black + white.  dress, Alexander Wang.  leggings, Kova and T, boots, Frye.

i babysat my nephew for a week, it was so fun!  he lounged all week and mostly slept, but he's a super cute little guy.

what i've been listening to...
  • Gifted - nasa
  • Suicide Dream 2 - How to Dress Well
  • Swimsuits - The Cool Kids
  • 212 - Azealia Banks
  • Someone That I Used to Know - Gotye
  • Girls Like You - The Naked and the Famous
  • Little Things - Bush
  • I Don't Give A... - Madonna ft Nicki Minaj (the new MDNA album is pretty great!)
  • The Space Inbetween - How to Destroy Angels
  • Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion - Oliver Tank
i've been spring shopping like crazy, so hopefully i can pull it together enough to remember to photograph my outfits!  i got this amazing hot pink maxi skirt...it's so good.

so a quick update on the new years resolutions (can you guys even believe it's already April on Sunday?).
1. i have mastered full camel pose, and i am now moving on to arm balances. infinitely harder, i think.
2. GRE taken, rocked.  applications in. now the waiting game.
3. chrono-nutrition, i'm doing pretty well.  i have the occassional burrito bowl from chipotle for dinner..but oh well.
4. i bring my lunch faithfully!

all in all, i'm feeling successful for the year.  this waiting game with the school applications nauseates me.  literally i'm sick with nerves on a daily basis.  but as they say, nothing that's worth it is ever easy!  the chicest chick with a PhD ain't easy, ladies and gents ;-)

i'm speaking at my alma mater in a couple of weeks, at an event to encourage high school kids to be engineers. i'm in a huge tizzy over what to wear.  i've gone through like 500 options. i'm interested to see which i'll pick!

again, sorry i've been gone.  i promise i'll swing by more often!

style file - this week's highlights, what i wore

you guys have to forgive me.  i've been completely absent, barely able to pull it together to blog about the Oscars (forgive the few grammatical errors..i'm fixing them!) - the weeks have been flying past me like a spring time storm.  but i'll let you in on the good news.  i took my GRE and did better than i could have hoped for!  so that new years resolution about grad school... making it happen, you guys.  it's going to be a big year!

so what have i been wearing? i honestly don't even know what i've been wearing because i've been so focused on studying and memorizing vocabulary words and practicing math problems, i was throwing on anything that jumped out of my closet first.  a few bright spots among the darkness though...

i'm OBSESSED with this shirt. i think i've worn it like 45 times in the past two weeks. top, Anthropologie. jeans, J Brand. flats, J.Crew

i was in the mood to feel...glamorous that day for work?  dress, Alexander Wang. sweater (underneath), J.Crew. cropped leopard fur coat, Mink Pink. heels, Vince Camuto.

this was my one night of revelry in the past three weeks...wishing a coworker well as he moves along to a new city, new company, new adventure.  this was taken at roughly midnight on a Wednesday and good lord, we all had a rough Thursday together in the office (obviously).....

and that's what i was wearing... how great is this dress? so good with heels or flats...totally versatile! dress, T by Alexander Wang.  heels, Banana Republic.

what i've been listening to...

  • Escapee - Architecture in Helsinki
  • No Light, No Light (Breakage's One Moment Remix) - Florence + the Machine
  • Her Eyes are a Blue Million Miles - The Black Keys
  • Monster Hospital (MSTRKRFT Remix) - Metric
  • Skinny Love - Bon Iver
  • The Space Between - How to Destroy Angels
  • Shake Ya Ass - Mystikal
  • Barton Hallow - The Civil Wars
  • Heartbeat - The Fray
so it's March now - this year is flying by, right?  so far i've accomplished a lot that i set out to on January 1st.  i have fully achieved full camel pose, FYI!  like totally in it.  it's the most amazing feeling.  i did well on my GREs, that's another amazing feeling.  i've started writing my statements of intent, i'm making the big moves, you know?  it's a good feeling.  big changes!

also, fashion week(s) have been flying by.  it came at an odd time for me, as i was so busy with my test, but i WILL start recapping the shows (promise!).

so I was in Boston this weekend, visiting my sister at Harvard, and this morning...

and we were walking to breakfast this morning (isn't the business school library so beautiful?), and i'll tell you..spring is in the air.  we both felt it.  birds chirping, the air was brisk but had some mildness to it... it felt good.  so...HAPPY ALMOST SPRING!  i'm totally looking forward to wearing more crop tops, aren't you?
